At age 8, I was told I wrote well. I wrote speeches and eulogies for the family, and academic papers, textbooks, and columns for my work in risk management, as Ariane Chapelle, my maiden name.
As Ariane Lang, the time has come to finally move to fiction and creative writing.
My first is for children 7 - 12, a happy story of a kitten and his best friend, 11-year-old Tempest.
There will be more.
Years ago, I promised my kids that my next book would for children. They became Tempest and Wallace in "Tempest's Secret", a detective story for young pet lovers, their parents and grand-parents.
Chapters 1 to 3 are freely downloadable below.
Please reach out if you want to know the rest of the story.
All proceeds will go to a children's education centre in Cambodia (www.enfantsdeklangleu.org)
Tempest's Secret
Hi, my name is Tempest: like a raging storm, when the wind blows, the sky turns dark before lightning strikes, and the thunder rages like an angry monster. I'm 11, short and skinny. I have thick, brown hair that tangles like crazy when I run. I look like a broomstick upside down. Wallace is my jumpy, happy little brother; he's 8. We're bored at home because Mum and Dad work a lot, but they always say no to a pet. I could DIE of joy if I had a pet, especially a cat. I know everything about cats.
Last Sunday, Wallace and I rescued a black-and-white kitten stuck in the big tree. He had no tag or collar: we named him Pompon. I decided to keep him a secret from Mum and Dad, just for just a few days, to prove to them that I could take care of a pet on my own. But when I came back from school on Monday, Pompon had disappeared.
